SINGAPORE, April 16 (Bernama) -- A pregnant woman who is expecting her child in May, was sentenced to two weeks' jail after she pleaded guilty to three of seven charges of causing hurt to a Myanmar maid at her Bedok North Street 4 flat in 2009.

On March 26 that year, one month into Aye Aye Kyu's employment as maid, Wendy Seow Wei Leng, 32, then a housewife, hit the maid on the shoulders when she got angry with her for having folded in her (Seow's) unwashed blouse among the clothes in the cupboard, the Straits Times reported.

The court also heard that on May 5, 2009, Seow asked the 23-year-old maid to take a packet of minced meat from the freezer but when she took out a packet of pork instead, Seow became angry and threw the packet at her, hitting her right cheek.

Then on June 22, she slapped the victim who heard wrongly and toasted some bread for two seconds instead of 20 seconds.

The offences came to light when the maid ran away from her employer's home on July 17, 2009 and went to the Manpower Ministry at Kim Seng Road.

Seow could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined up to $7,500 on each of the three charges.
