Strong wind with heavy rainfall have struck Mandalay, Myanmar's second largest city, two days after Myanmar new year ushered in, destroying some billboards erected in the city, local media reported Thursday.

Tuesday afternoon's strong wind and heavy rainfall flooded some streets in the city, said the Biweekly Eleven News.

It was found that some hailstones of the size of grape fruit also fell, it said.

Except the breakdown of some tree branches, no major damage was resulted in, the report added.

Over the four-day Myanmar traditional water festival, Mandalay was noted with having held the event on the grandest scale with the biggest crowd of revelers playing water at dozens of water throwing pandals erected along the moat of Mandalay Royal Palace.
