Screening of "Burma Soldier" Followed by a Panel Discussion With Myo Myint

Population, Refugees, and Migration Assistant Secretary Eric Schwartz will moderate a panel following a screening of the award-winning HBO film, “Burma Soldier.” The documentary film follows the life of former Burmese soldier turned pro-democracy activist Myo Myint. The screening will take place on Monday, April 25, 2011 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. in the Dean Acheson Auditorium at the U.S. Department of State. Assistant Secretary Schwartz and East Asian and Pacific Affairs Assistant Secretary Kurt Campbell will make opening remarks.
Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with Assistant Secretary Eric Schwartz, Myo Myint, “Burma Soldier” film producer Julie leBrocquy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Joe Yun, and Office of War Crimes Issues Deputy, Dr. Diane Orentlicher.
This event is open to credentialed members of the media. Digital recording of the film and event is not permitted.
Final access time for press: 12:40 p.m. from the 23rd Street entrance.
Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) A U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).
